Hi folks,
I'm new to this forum but not particularily new to genealogy.
Was looking for the marriage of one of my relatives back in the early 1800's. As luck would have it I found an entry which is very possibly them on Scotland's People. It's was under the Old Parish Registers. For the life of me I can't see the date of marriage. Am I right in thinking this is actually a register of the banns of marriage that were put out in the parish rather than an actual marriage register. I attach a quick screenshot of the page.

Yes, you are absolutely correct.
Unfortunately it's quite common for the proclamation of banns to be recorded but not the date of the actual wedding ceremony, so the chances are that this is all you are going to find.

The kirk required you to marry within forty days of officially intimating your intention to do so.
If the parties came from two separate parishes, a record would be made in both places. If you see this in the index, you should always look at each entry as one might contain extra information.
It is also worth looking at the minutes of the kirk session to see if there is any reference to the marriage there.
