Title: Upper Shields, Alnwick
Post by: JosiahS on Saturday 25 October 25 18:50 BST (UK)
Helllo there

I have discovered that my ancestor John Thompson was a farmer near Alnwick.  On the baptisms of his children it is marked at Upper Shields, Upper Shields Dikes, and Over Shields.

Does anyone know where this was?  I can't find his marriage to his wife Ann (sometime before 1774) or either of their burials and I am wondering if it actually borders on another parish.

Thank you in advance.

A possibility?

Here is a side-by-side map view (old OS/modern map) of a farm called Shiel Dykes just north of Swarland, south of Alnwick,

On the 1840 tithe map the occupant is James Huggup; the owner is the Duke of Northumberland.

Thank you - that is a big help!

The search for the marriage, where they came from, and where they went continues.... :D
