Title: What happened to Mary Souter?
Post by: mulberry-rose on Saturday 25 October 25 10:40 BST (UK)
Hi,
I’m trying to find the whereabouts of Mary (nee Greenwell), wife of Isaac Souter/Sutter/Sulter after 1848. She was born in 1798 at Longbenton, daughter of Robert Greenwell & Margaret Grey.

She married Isaac in 1844 at Longbenton under the name Mary Ann Coxon.

Isaac died 22 September 1848 at Cassop Hill, Durham, and she was the informant for his death.

Previously Mary was married to Francis Coxon at Houghton-Le-Spring in 1816. They had Margaret (1818), Jane (1820), Eleanor (1822), Rosina (1828), Thomas Gray Greenwell (1830) and Elizabeth (1835). Francis died in 1839 at Killingworth.

In 1841 Mary lived at Waggonman’s Row in Longbenton with her children Rosina & Thomas.

Any help is very appreciated  :)

I can’t yet find them in 1851, but in 1861 they can be found in Thornley (Easington RD).
Mary’s birthplace is Bigges Main, which fits well with Longbenton.

Just had a look at that 1861 census and the two girls with them (Margaret Hills & Ann Hills) I believe are actually Mary’s granddaughters. Her eldest daughter Margaret (1818) married to a Thomas Hills.

Margaret Hills, 33, b Lanchester
Francis Hills, 9, b Thornley
Ann Hills, 8, b Thornley
Margaret Hills, 6, b Annfield Plain
