What information is on the marriage certificate?
Have you looked at the children's birth certificates to see information about parents' birthplace?
You really need to look at more than just the index to the death certificate.

I can see an emigration in Oct 1878 From Cornwall to New Zealand for a James DALLEY (age 19) with various siblings and parents James and Emma (both 43).
Have you looked into this family? They were from Roche in Cornwall.
The father was a miner. He died in NZ in 1905.
The mother was Emma Grace, nee GROSE. She died in NZ in 1902.
The oldest son, John died in a mining accident in QLD in 1887.
You would need to acquire certificates to confirm this is your family.

Following on from Neale1961. IF this is your family there is a newspaper article on the death of John in Charters Towers.

There most likely would not be a headstone for John and over the years the steel markers with grave numbers on them are rare to find. Actually the cemetery is in pretty poor condition which is a shame as the people buried there were the back bone to the town. I live in Charters Towers and if this is your family i am more than happy to go have a look for you.
Burial register ... no headstone but does give a plot number

Many thanks your very kind offer. I am assisting a friend with her family research. Her father, John (known as Jack) died when she was a teenager and Jack's father (James) died when he was 7 years of age. So she has no information on her paternal side. I am waiting for the arrival of the marriage certificate of James and Ellen Dalley, (Sydney 29 Dec 1885) to confirm that I am on the right DALLEY family line. Will be in touch, thank you. Bonnie.
