Title: Maiden name?
Post by: mrjmitchell on Thursday 23 October 25 16:49 BST (UK)
Hi all.

I'm not sure on the maiden name here for Eliza Jane? To me it looks like Govern or Gowan? Any thoughts? Thanks, Jamie.

If you think it looks like Govan aren’t you looking at the wrong name? Her maiden surname is on the next line, preceded by M.S.

Looks like G a w v e r n
Maybe look for a marriage between Thomas Govan and Eliza Jane G*ern, or look for other events for the same person which also names the parents?

I had a quick look on SP for a marriage for a Thomas to a Eliza Jane but not having much information on the date we are looking at a bit of a problem .Maybe Jamie could give us the name of the person on the marriage certificate he has and the date and place would help .
