I'm trying to trace back the surname Edrupt in St Neots, Huntingdonshire.
I've currently traced back my genealogy to a William Edrupt (Edrop) (b. 1744) married 1774 to Mary Maling (b. 1745) who lived and raised their family in Carlton, Cambridgeshire.
However I've found earlier death records of four people with the surname Edrupt in St Neots; Moses (d. 1776), Ann (d. 1781), Elizabeth (d. 1784) and Mary (d. 1786).
Does anyone know of any connections between the Edrupt family in St Neots and Edrupt family in Cambridgeshire? Or any more information on the four individuals listed above?
Note some possible different spellings of the surname might be Edrop, Edropp, Edropp, Edrrupe, Edrup, Edrupp, Ederup.
Interestingly I don't seem to be able to find any records in Huntingonshire for any of these surnames after 1787. ???

There's a marriage of a Moses Edrop (of St Neots) to Ann Bone at Eynesbury in 1769. Transcript on FindMyPast doesn't give actual date. Could be your Moses and Ann burials
-
I've found the baptism of a Barron Edrop s/o John and Mary at Eaton Socon on on 11 Sep 1761
Eynesbury not far from Eaton Socon

That might just be because later records aren't on line.
There are later ones for that surname and variant around Potton and sandy, not very far from St Neots.
Have you found baptisms for your William and Mary nee Maling, or are approx birth years from age at death?

There are several items at Cambs/Hunts Archives. I didn't check all spelling variants, but for Edroppe there were:
Edroppe, Elizabeth St.Neots: probate inventory 1627
Edroppe, John St.Neots: probate inventory 1627
https://calm.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/
For Edrop there are half a dozen more items, wills and inventories.

Hello
Mary Maling is a local girl to Carlton.
Mary bapt 19.11.1749 d of William and Margaret Maling.
Children /Siblings for her
William 9.1.1744,daughter 3.5.1747 ,Mary 1749,Jane 22.10.1752 ,Margaret 26.8.1755 ,Susan 7.11.1756 .
It looks like dad William Maling 1713- 26.11.1777 a farmer.
But there are multiple Ale house liceces fow William Maling 1764-1803 ,mostly at Linton.
In partucular 11.9.1775 for The Carpenters Arms where there are 2 surietes Thomas Barnard and William Edrop.
William Edrop and Mary Maling married in Westminster .The licence says he was 25 a bachelor of the parish of St George Hanover. So birth c 1749.
His burial at Carlton 13.10.1811 gives 1744
ps Mary 1749-5.3.1819 Carlton

The only William E I can find born about the right time was one in Sandy, Beds 25 May 1751 s/o John and Mercy. They had two previous Williams, who I presume must have died.
I found an apprenticeship record which may be him in 1765, apprenticed to a butcher in Potton.

Thank you all for your excellent information and sources ;D
Yes the William Edrop born 1746 in Sandy, Bedfordshire does look very interesting. I'll keep digging into that area.

William/Mary married 7 June 1774 in London.
FreeREG has childrens bapts but seem to be a gap between William Maling EDROP 1775 and SUSAN 1785 and last child was CHARLES 1789
(bapts Carlton cum Willingham)
Its also a bit confusing as there is a Burial of WILLIAM 19 Nov 1777 son of WM/MARY
Trees have William/Mary having a Son William 1784 who married Lydia DARKING 1812 Suffolk
(entry on FreeREG has William of Brinkley)
Cant see a bapt for him c 1784 or Burial 1826 as Trees have.
There is one 1826 but he was born 1800
Lydia remarried 1832
-
Isn't the William E buried in 1777 the one bapt as William Maling E in 1775? Is the one who married Lydia Darking a replacement William and there is a gap in the parish records? . Brinkley is only a mile from Carlton cum W.

(bapts Carlton cum Willingham)
Found two baptisms to fill that gap nicely BUT they're in Long Sutton Hampshire. Did William and Mary move away from Carlton for a few years and then back?
Baptisms
Mary 15 Oct 1779
William 14 Oct 1782
I cannot find any other Edrupt (or variations) bmd events in that part of Hampshire

There's a marriage of a Mary Edrupt in Brinkley to a Joseph Turner on 21 Jun 1802. Where did she come from. Right sort of time for a Mary born in 1779 to marry
-
Possible for Mary Turner in 1851
Piece number 1787
Folio 80
Page 8
Born Hampshire and there is a Susan Turner bapt Sturmer d/o Joseph and Mary 07 Jul 1805
Sturmer is in Essex, but going along the Cambridge / Haverhill / Long Melford road you cross the county boundary multiple times. Carlton cum W in Cambs but just south of Newmarket which is in Suffolk
-
Joseph and Mary Turner have a daughter Mary baptised in Sturmer and looks like she married a William Skilton in Sturmer. Her residence is Steeple Bumpstead.
-
Cant see a bapt for him c 1784 or Burial 1826 as Trees have.
There is one 1826 but he was born 1800
FindMyPast has William buried 17 Jan 1826 at Carlton age 44. abode Borough Green
-
The National Archive has abstract of William's will. proved Nov 1811, confirms children Mary Turner, William Edrupt, Susan Edrupt and Charles Edrupt. So looks hopeful for the two Hampshire baptisms.
-
Yes just saw the William's will you refer to. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJW-4W53?view=fullText&lang=en&groupId= (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJW-4W53?view=fullText&lang=en&groupId=)
Looking at Parish Baptisms in Carlton, Cambridgeshire for the period 1770-1790 there doesn't seem to be any large gap of missing data.
The idea that William & Mary moved to Long Sutton, Hampshire between 1777 (first William's death) and 1785 (Susan's birth) does seem likely. Especially given the unique spelling of "Edrupt" at the time.
-
Gosh looking back dont know where I got this from;
There is one 1826 but he was born 1800 :-[
Yes I had come to the conclusion the 1st William died and other children most have been born elsewhere before Susan was bapt.
Well done everyone for sorting it all out :)
