Hello all, wondering if anyone with more experienced eyes can decipher Joseph Carnall's occupation in this 1841 census? He's the second entry down on the left. It's in Stoke so lots of pottery-related jobs, but not sure if he's in that industry. He dies a few years later so there's no 1851 census to compare it to. Thank you, much appreciated!

Whilst this does not match what is written as occupation, Joseph's address in 1841 is Furnace Road Brough Bridge, Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire, England.
A daughter Mary baptised 23rd February 1840 abode Furnace Road, father's occupation Potter

The above digital £3 gro image for Mary's birth may well give a different occupation
A son born to them in 1846 called Enoch Richard Carnall, his father Joseph occupation "Potter" abode furnace road.

Ah, that's amazing work, thank you so much to all! Much appreciated. I would not have seen manufacturer in a million years - and that notice in the Gazette is so interesting and I think correct as the family later have links to Lane End.
I will also look up those birth records - I don't know if something's gone awry with my research as I thought his wife's maiden name was Hollins. Perhaps she died and he remarried another Mary. Not sure but I will look it all up, thank you.

A Joseph Carnel married a Mary Wirrilow 30th August 1832 Stoke on Trent, St Peter Ad Vincula so he may well have been a widower at marriage as in 1841 census there are children born pre 1832

It does look like manufacturer. I found a burial for Joseph 1/7/1849 age 59 Furnace Road,Longton, St James, Staffordshire. Also a marriage to Mary Wood 20/10/1816 St Peter Ad Vincula. Witnesses Samuel Poulson and Robert Wood. A baptism 24/4/1791 Trentham, father Thomas Carnall mother Cath. As mentioned Joseph Carnall late of Lane End, potter named in a list of Insolvent Debtors to appear at the Court House Stafford 18/3/1825. This appeared in Aris's Birmingham Gazette of 7/3/1825.

Thank you for the extra info, it's really helpful! I'll go have a look and unpick it all - I'm now wondering if there could be two Joseph Carnalls of the same age married to Mary's in the area?! Seems so very unlikely but in the Mary Warrilow marriage he lists himself as bachelor which is curious - that plus no death record for the original Mary.
The child I'm interested in is the James born 1815 so he definitely seems a Hollins child at any rate but I hope I have the right Joseph.
Thank you everyone, really appreciate the help!

Think we may have been barking up wrong person. The Joseph Carnall who married Mary Wirrilow appears with her and 2 children in the household of Nathaniel Wirrilow in 1841. Census he is aged 30
Added he appears with Mary and 3 children in 1851(abode Furnace Row) and as a widower with a daughter Fanny in 1861 and dies 1864 aged 54.
