Hello, is there anyone that looks up marriages in Doncaster? i have one in St Judes Hexthorpe in 1943.
A Dorothy May Humphrey married a John George Gosling/Gossling there was also another Gosling marriage on the same day?
Do i need to order the certificate or can this be looked up,
Best wishes Tim

The other marriage of Dennis Gossling to Miriam Kirton. I suspect his surname is actually Gosling. There is a Gosling/Kirton birth in Doncaster in 1944. He appears in 1939 war register with dob 1921.
SS
added, Miriam died 1998 Doncaster, Dennis died 2012 Doncaster.

Doncaster Archdeaconry PRs are on Findmypast, but Hexthorpe marriages are not in their list of registers available, probably because records start 1893. Doncaster Archives holds Hexthorpe marriages to 1946. See

Doncaster FHS may have a member who would check this for you.

The Kent & Sussex Courier, 2 Apr 1943 has a marriage notice of a Dorothy May Humphrey and a Jack Gosling- doesn't specify where.
It mentions her grandparents - surname Hendley. There's a birth reg for a Dorothy M Humphrey, 2nd Qtr 1925, Hailsham (Sussex), - mother's maiden name Hendley.
Possibility?

I wondered about a possible death. A newspaper item popped up about a Gosling marrying in the early 50s, a former band singer etc and the right location - fitted Jack/John George.
I had found a Dorothy May Humphrey, birth registered 1925, that fitted the 1944 death.

Do you have any further details of newspaper article or deatils of marriage?

Why did a couple from Eastbourne/London get married in Hexthorpe? Was one or both involved in war work there? Hexthorpe is a late 19th cent. suburb of terraces, sandwiched between the River Don and the Great Central railway line where it meets the Great North Eastern, just south of Doncaster station. To the north of the housing was "The Plant" which was the GNER's huge engineering works behind the station. During WW2 it was involved in manufacture of Horsa gliders.
Hexthorpe St Jude parish was formed out of Doncaster St James parish in 1893, which was itself created in 1858, financed by shareholders of the Great Northern and known as the "Plant Church". This is the district c1955. St Jude's church is at the junction of Hexthorpe Road and Shady Side; St James is east of the railway.

Think it may have been a military situation.
Scarbrough Barracks was a military installation near Hexthorpe in Doncaster that was in use during and after World War II.

His marriage item in the Middlesex County Times, 4 Oct 1952, refers to his being a despatch rider during the war.

I have now found Scarbrough Barracks, which was not in Hexthorpe, perhaps he was in ancillary accommodation. It was to the east of the town centre, close to the Great North Road. See
https://www.doncaster1914-18.org.uk/collections/getrecord/DONARC_DV2
It is shown on this map revised 1938
