Tying a few loose ends up, on my tree, and can't seem to find a marriage for Annie Mary Glenn.....born 1928 Grantham, Lincolnshire....I have the name Hallam from "somewhere", but nothing is coming up, any help appreciated....I should add that Annie is now deceased......

-
When did she die and with what surname. OK not to worry, have found she died 1983

 SS
-
2 daughters 1966/68 with mmn Glenn and surname Hallam.

 SS
-
The 1939 Register shows that she was born 26/12/1928 and that her surname (Glenn) was struck through and written above is the surname HALLAM. The explanation for this is that the NHS continued to use this database for many, many years and when a woman married / remarried they struck out the old surname and show the new surname.

Possibly the daughters of Donald C Hallam and Maureen J (nee Glenn) married Grantham Qrt 4, 1964
-
Struggling to find a marriage for Annie Mary but I did find this about her from the Grantham Journal, 5th July 1968. This suggests that she married after 1968.

Thanks to all that replied....so the 1939 register proves that she DID marry someone called Hallam....I wonder why we can't find the marriage ?.......

-
No it does not prove she married. She may well have set up home with a Mr Hallam. I have 2 examples of females with name changes in 1939 who actually never married.

 SS
-
Ahh.....that would explain not being able to find a marriage.....thank you......EDIT....the plot thickens !!....ALAN Hallam....Mmhhh.....

-
I think the two girls, born in 1966 and 1968 are the daughters of Annie Mary Glenn, and Alan Hallam....still no marriage ......yet......

-
Just putting this down for the back burner as I have an idea Alan was not free to marry.

Alan Hallam Possibly born 13th June 1928.
 Married Thelma Doreen Pickance.

 Believe Alan's death

 HALLAM, ALAN       1928
GRO Reference:  DOR  Q2/2022 in LINCOLNSHIRE  (609-1K)  Entry Number 523951138

Cannot find Thelma Doreen (dob 16.5.1928) after 21 6.1955 when she and Alan and 2 children returned from Australia.

For the other marriage FreeBMD has Hallam entered as HAL_AM, presumably because there is an unclear character in the index.

-
Well, after much searching, I still can't find the marriage for Alan Hallam and Annie Mary Glenn....maybe as suggested there wasn't one, and they probably just lived together as man and wife.....

 I can't see a matching HALLAM/GLENN marriage either  ???

The death of Annie Mary Hallam in the newspaper article from SS reply 10 -  it might not be of any help but perhaps obtaining the d/c to see who the informant was :-\

 HALLAM Annie Mary   born 26De1928
 Mar qtr 1983  Grantham    7   1685

If the same person perhaps he wasn't free to marry :-\ See SS & Mabel's replies 10/13/14

I've not found a death TDH born 1928 - may still be living so have not included full name

-
Mmmhhh.....I'm wondering if TDH is a "red herring"....re- Mabel Bagshawe's post relating to the 40th anniversary in 1985.....certainly a strange one this......

There's no date of marriage next to Annie's name yet there is one written for her sister Mabel who married a Shannon Jun qtr 1951 Grantham. Next to Annie's name in the schedule column there's some numbers & letters could that be significant  ???
-
Yes, Mabel married Patrick Shannon, at Grantham in 1951.....not sure what those numbers, and letters mean, next to Annie's name.......

-
Well, I managed to find out, from the 1939 register, that Annie Mary Glenn's father, Joseph was married twice, which I never knew.....Joseph was my Grandfather's cousin.....

Thelma died in Newark in 1992 - added. this mght be a different Thelma, as the DOB on the death register is in1931 and matches a Thelma Joynes who married Frederick Hallam, in Newark

"Next to Annie's name in the schedule column there's some numbers & letters could that be significant."

Is this her ID number, later used as the original NHS number?  4 letters 3 numbers.
There is a key to the district letters here:

Well, I have tried everything I can think of, to find a marriage for Annie Mary Glenn, and a Mr. Hallam....to no avail....I wondered if they had married abroad, but nothing is coming up on passenger lists, to suggest that they did....I also wondered if they married in Scotland, but again nothing is showing on the Scotland's People site.......maybe one day I will find out !!....

Well, I haven't given up yet....I now think that as suggested, the two girls born in 1966 and 1968, ARE the daughters of Donald C Hallam and Maureen J Glenn.....I can't find any births for any children for Annie Mary Glenn/Hallam , even though her obituary (if it is her) says that she was ("A loving mother").....oh well, keep looking......
