Hi David, welcome to Rootschat! I live in Woodley so not too far from Binfield.
Was Crockford Cottage near Jock's Lane by any chance? There's a road of about 30 houses in Crockford Place nearby. The houses look about 30 years old I'd guess so possibly built on the land your cottage used to sit on. You can find it on Google maps (or any other online maps I guess) 😊
Hope that helps

Hi again Heather just had a look at old maps and it's on Shurlock Road but can only find Shurlock Row on Google Maps
Had a look on there but everything seems to be covered by trees
anyhow it's a Grade 2 listed building so quite old looking
If you're ever over that way see if you can spot a sign on a gate

Here is a side-by-side map showing a Crockford's Cottage on the 1:2500 OS map and a modern satellite view.

Had a look on street view and there is indeed a good view of a house there, with a nameplate 'Crockfords'. Since this is a lookup request I can't post an image. It is a two story brick building, symmetrical, chimneys at both gables, five windows on 1st storey, central door and two sets of two windows on ground floor.

On that site on the tithe map for the parish of Waltham St Lawrence, dated 1840:
Thomas Crockford, owner and occupier of six plots, total just over 11 acres including plot 281 at the position of the cottage "Homestall Garden and Orchard"

Nice work Alan 😁 you beat me to posting the NLS map 👍
I suppose the developers of the 30 year old houses in Binfield just used the local name Crockford, they're about 4 miles from the cottage you found 😊

You win some, you lose some 😊
I must admit, not being at all familiar with the area, I spent a lot of time looking at Binfield, where, of course, it isn’t located. I was the mention of Crockford’s Bridge that led me to the right place.
