Title: Martha Lynch
Post by: Gordon163 on Monday 06 October 25 14:22 BST (UK)
Hi,

I am trying to find information about the birth of Martha Lynch, who married John Blandy at Newbury in 1804.

The death of Martha Blandy was registered at Andover, Hampshire in 1838, but no age was given.

I suspect that she may be a child of John Lynch and Elizabeth Williams, who married at Newbury in 1777, as John Lynch's maternal grandmother was named Martha.

However, there does not seem to be any evidence of such a birth.

Any help most welcome please.

I see on Findmypast that there was a Lynch baptism in 1746 at Newbury, where only the parents names appear. They were Anthony Lynch and Mary Sherman.

Mary's mother was Martha (married to Daniel Sherman).

I see when they were married John was of Inkpen, a bachelor and Martha of Newbury, a spinster.  The marriage was by licence

Did they have children.  If she was a spinster when she married the one you are looking at would have been too old

I was just pleased to have found a Martha Lynch, who was a cousin of my 6th gt-grandmother, Elizabeth Lynch. The name Martha crops up as a sibling of my gg-grandfather. I just wondered where it came from. My ggg-grandmother came from the Newbury area and was born in 1777, so she would have known Martha, who died in 1838.

Martha Lynch who married John Blandy was not the 1838 burial.

The Martha Blandy who died in 1838 and was buried at Vernham Dean was the widow of Edward Blandy as per the burial register.  She married Edward Blandy in 1775 at Tisbury, Wiltshire - her maiden name was Martha Bower.

Martha Lynch/Linch, daughter of Anthony and Mary was born in 1759 at Newbury.

She married John Blandy of Inkpen at Newbury in 1804. I think that John Blandy was born in 1749.

So, clearly there were no children.

Martha was buried at Shalbourne, Wiltshire in 1825. It is not far from Inkpen.

If you mean the burial on the 8th February 1825 she was the widow of James

1825 at Speenhamland looks more promising. Age at death is not quite right , but that is not uncommon. It is reasonably close, though.

Thanks.

There was a John Bernard Blandy baptised at Inkpen in 1776, which agrees quite closely with the age of the 1840 Burial.

I had wondered whether John Bernard/Barnard had switched his first names, there is a Barnard John Blandy on electoral registers in 1832 and 1843 at Spleen

It does sound rather like the same person.
