Title: Missing Wilkins kids
Post by: EdCan on Saturday 04 October 25 18:50 BST (UK)
George William Wilkins and Ruth Rose Rayner married 8 Dec 1901 Westminster. They had children George Herbert(1902), Lilian Ruth(1903), Arthur William(1906), Sidney(1909) and Leslie(1913). In 1911 the family is living in Fulham. George William dies in 1914 Fulham. Ruth is living in Kensington according to 1918 Electoral Register. I can not find her 1921 but she remarries to Frederick Adams in 1922 and dies in 1965 Hertfordshire.
I have no problem tracing Arthur, Sidney and Leslie. I have found them in 1921, 1939,marriages and deaths. Problems are with George Herbert and Lilian Ruth.
George Herbert born 28 Mar 1902 is with family in 1911 and there is a school record for him in 1916 leaving Ashford. I can not find anything else for him
Lilian Ruth born 9 Jul 1903 is with family in 1911 and that is it for her.
Can anyone help with George and Lilian?

Ed

Possibly lied about his age and signed up late in the war ? Have you looked for military records ?

is that definitely your George? there's a George Herbert b 1904 Cricklewood who's in Ashford in 1911 and remains in the area throughout his life

Ignore me - just found the school record with mother's name

If you just search for a Lillian R* with her date of birth there is one in Essex in 1939, possibly married firstly as WILKINS to Ernest REYNOLDS in 1922 and secondly to Joseph HENSHAW in 1940.  She is already recorded as HENSHAW in 1939 even though they had not yet married, so there is no change of surname notation.  You would need to see the marriage certs to confirm whether or not it is her.

If that's Lilian Henshaw in Barking, she's listed as a widow. Not saying it isn't the Lilian we're after, but it has some issues

There's also a Lilian R Howell of the right dob in Heston area - her surname isn't indexed on Ancestry. However she might be nee Doggett

Agree with you that Lilian R Howell was Doggett. Marriage sept qtr 1935 Wandsworth vol 1a pg 1744 for Henry A Howell & Lilian R Doggett. Baptism All Saints, South Acton 31 August 1903 for Lilian Rose daughter of Edmund William & Mary Alice Doggett, her dob noted as 8 July 1903.

Also, not the Lilian Ruth Wilkins who married in Toronto in 1923, her father was Robert.

Thanks for the lookups and thoughts. They are not easy to trace.

If that's Lilian Henshaw in Barking, she's listed as a widow.

I wonder if Lilian was previously living with Joseph Henshaw's brother Judah? :-\

Births
HENSHAW, JUDAH
Mother's Maiden Surname: SOLOMONS
GRO Reference: 1902  J Quarter in STEPNEY  Volume 01C  Page 387

HENSHAW, JOSEPH
Mother's Maiden Surname: SOLOMONS
GRO Reference: 1904  M Quarter in STEPNEY  Volume 01C  Page 381

1911 census

Marriage
June 1928 St. Martin 1a 1254
Judah Henshaw + Elfreda E. Muller

1931 in Paddington (electoral register)
270 Elgin Avenue
Jack Henshaw
Elfreda Elizabeth Henshaw

Then in 1935, Marylebone
4 Coryton House, Upper Marylebone Street
Jack Henshaw
Lilian Ruth Henshaw

Death
June 1936 Paddington 1a 31
Henshaw, Judah
Age 34

Apparently Judah was buried 31 March 1936 at East Ham Jewish Cemetery.

It would explain perhaps why Lilian was a widowed Henshaw in 1939, though (presumably!) she hadn't actually been married to Judah.
