Attached is a photo found in the family "pass me downs". Location unknown, but probably Mossley / Ashton under Lyne, Lancs. They do look a happy lot in their Sunday best, perhaps having to sit still for too long.
We have a couple of possibilities of identity and I have to guess at the date, but I'm sure there are better brains out there than mine to interpret the clothing.

I can't help with dating, but I can say that the age group is mixed between young 3 and older 5 years.
There is even one child who looks not quite 3!
I think school was compulsory from 1880 in England at 5 years, so possibly not a school photo.

The clothing and ages look very similar to a school photo in my family collection, taken in Islington in 1906.
