Title: Group of miners NSW
Post by: Katharine75 on Tuesday 30 September 25 10:57 BST (UK)
Hi. Was hoping someone might be able to sharpen this image a little. It is from a newspaper article and I don't have a better copy of it.
Thanks in advance, Katharine.

Sorry Katharine but I don't think this could be improved upon. Images from newspapers are very difficult to repair as most of the fine detail is lost. I responded as it was dropping down the board.

Had a go to wring from it what I could but, as Carol says, much of the fine detail is lost.

Thankyou so much for your replies and restorations of the photo everyone.

Peter - I believe we may be related looking at your interests listed under your post. I am a descendant of Ann Maria Singleton and William Clarke, through their daughter Susannah Clarke who married James King. Family lived at Kingstown near Uralla. Do you have any old photos of the Singletons/Clarkes by any chance?

Rami - I am blown away by your restore!!! How accurate would you say the detail is of the men? I have no idea how they are restored and if AI comes into it, so am curious if the detail is guess work or just using what is on the photo.
I wonder if you would be happy to do a few more restores for me? I have another photo which looks like it could actually be the same men to me.

the image has been improved using AI. A huge number of missing pixels have been added, especially in the facial areas. Let me be direct. The accuracy rate is over 80%, but not 100%. The attached image cannot be improved because the people are far away and their features cannot be seen.

Rami - I understand. Thanks, for you reply. Do you think you could do anything with this photo.....

Rami, your results are amazingly good.
I am a serious amateur photographer and I have never been able to come up with anything this good even with AI driven software.
Can you tell us which software you are using currently?

I agree with Ian999 - the results are outstanding. WOW! Thankyou for taking time to do this.
One query though - in the original it looks like the man standing in the doorway at centre maybe has a beard to me, but the restore has a moustache. I say this as I believe the person standing there has a small beard in other photos I have seen of him.
I will post the next few if you would like to have a go at them. Thanks in advance, Katharine.

I've enhanced what looks right, it looks like a raised shirt collar, usually a beard doesn't show up that brightly, that's what it looked like, as I said before 100% accuracy is impossible because the image itself is of poor quality and it would be different if it was scanned at the highest possible resolution.
