Hello all!
I have a Benjamin Evans who married Jane Evans at Llanfair Nant-Gwyn in 1832. Found them on the 1841 census at Llanfihangel Penbedw with 4 children. 1851, they're at Manordeifi.
Can anyone help me find anything for a birth or baptism for Benjamin? According to census hes born in county in 1841, born Manordeifi parish in 1851 and Clyde, Pembrokeshire in 1861 (Clydey?).
Any help greatly appreciated.
David.

You haven't included any birthyear for him
1851 shows 1806 but 1861 is 1811 & in 1871 it's 1801
10yr variation in birthyear - when did he die?
-
Just to add Benjamin was of the parish of Eglwyswrw when he married, Jane was of the parish of Llanfair Nantgwyn.

His year of birth is all over the place, so Im sure he didnt have a clue. Again im sure he died between the 1871 and 1881 censuses. But theres a few options on the death index.

Have you already checked Family Search?

Ive had a poke about. But not sure if he had gone back to Pembrokeshire before he died. So cant determine the death. Several possibilites.

Benjamin Evans 45
Jane 48
David 14
Benjamin 12
James 6

There are only 2 possible deaths in the Merthyr Tydfil RD between 1871-1881. 1877 may be more likely than the 1878 one given he married in 1832
As he had not lived in Pembroke since at least 1851 why do you think he may have returned there before he died?
Which of his children are you descended from? Did any of the children return to Pembroke or did they all remain in Glamorgan?
-
Descended from son Thomas born 1848. Ive got other branches that have gone back home to retire/die so ruling it out completely wouldnt be wise.

A possible: St Mary Parish Register Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire
Burial: Benjamin Evans . 02 Jul 1877. 76 = 1811

Id seen that previously. Gives abode as Rhosmarket. Rosemarket possibly?

On FreeCEN it says on the 1871 Census that Benjamin was born in Eglwyscummin and Anne was born in Maenclochog. They were living in Lampeter Velfrey, Pembrokeshire, with the 3 children born there, so more of a link that previously suggested.

Thanks Talacharn. Which bit is more of a link? Sorry im not understanding.

Oh I hadnt come across that before. That is interesting. Would confirm him not really knowing his ages across the census!
David.

He lived in Pembrokeshire much longer than thought and 3 children were born there. If looking for a burial Haverfordwest, Narberth areas would seem better than Pembroke which is the other side of the river. Llanfihangel Penbedw and Llanfair Nant-Gwyn are further inland.

Thank you for clarifying. Sorry, brain a bit fuzzy as I've stared at registers most of the evening.

I am not convinced that the fact he was illegitimate would affect him not knowing how old he was :)

He was always younger than Jane on the census ::)
1841 Benjamin 30 Jane 35
1851 Benjamin 45. Jane 48
1861 Benjamin 50. Jane 57
1871 Benjamin 70. Jane 77
