Hi Christine,

Dougald McDougall and Agnes Crombie were my great, great grandparents.  Although your dates do not match mine, they did have a son Hugh born 1863, but he is the 4th born child of 6 children I have found to date.  Does this date match with your Hugh?

Regards

Anne

Hi Chrissy,

I thought it would be the same family.  My great grandfather was their son, Dougal(l), who was born in Rothesay in 1865.  I also have Martha, Christina, Janet and Hugh.  They also had a daughter Mary, born about 1853.  I am still trying to find Mary's birth but I know she married John Burns in 1874.  Dougal married Janet Fulton in 1886 and they had (according to my grandmother, Margaret) 17 children, although only 6 or 7 survived childhood.  I have traced about 13 so far.    I will attempt to sent you a pm

Many thanks for your info,

Anne

Well Here is a turn up for the books.  I am DS McDougall the 3rd and Hugh McDougall is my Great Grandad.  I have traced the line as far back as the 1700's so far (I Think??) so here goes:

Me
                    ||
DS McDougall - I McDougall
                    ||
DS McDougall - Mary McDougall (McMillan)
                    ||
Hugh McDougall - Sarah McDougall (Kealt @ birth then for some reason Kilton Then Kealt on death & it is my Grand dad's sig on death cert I also have the original death cert of Hugh.  My Granddad also named his daughter from his first marriage - SARAH KILTON SMALL MCDOUGALL (1921).
                    ||
Dougald McDougall - Agnes McDougall (Crombie she died in Greenock poorhouse 1900)
                    ||
Duncan McDougall - Janet McDougall (Carmichael)
                    ||
John McDougall - Flora ? McDougall (McColl ??)

If all this looks familiar please reply to this and we could swop more info and would be interesting as to where we all fit into this.

Many Thanks and look forward to your reply.

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,

This is great news.  I knew there were more of us out there.

I did have Janet's surname (Carmichael) but I have not been able to trace her and Duncan positively beyond the 1851 Census.  The nearest I could get to their "place of birth" was Lismore, Argyllshire.  Was that correct?  I was going to go over there some weekend but the ferry doesn't run on a Sunday so I have to arrange a long weekend if that is indeed the place.

Best wishes,

Anne

Also spoke to my old man & would either of you be related to any of the following:

Willie / Sarah (McClintock) / Isa (Linney) / Bessie (?) all born McDougall's obviously.

Farther of the above would be David McDougall - Mother would be Jessie (Casement) Died 1924.

Many Thanks Dave

Not sure how relevant this is as it was posted some time ago.

But William Mcdougall (doodge) was my grandfather, Isa & Sarah are my great aunts, both of whom are still alive. Bessie i sadly never knew as she died before i was born, but my mother knew her.

As i understand it Jessie McDougall (Casement) died in childbirth when giving birth to Bessie.

I'm not that knowledgeable about my Great Grandparents lives but i know that David McDougall remarried after the death of Jessie, i can give you some information on their son William's family though.

William McDougall married his sister Sarah's best friend, Janet Moore.

They had Six children.

David McDougall (currently living in Morecombe England)
Joseph McDougall (currently living in Greenock)
Billy McDougall (currently living in Manchester England)
Ian McDougall (recently deceased but lived in Port Glasgow)
Alistair McDougal (currently living in Lagos, Nigeria)
Janet McDougall (currently living in Greenock)

Janet McDougall (Moore) is still living at the age of 93 in Greenock, William McDougall sadly died in 2006.

Janet McDougall is my mother, she married my father John Gregson in 1976 and together they have two sons.

John, your information was fascinating. I am trying to place David McDougall and Jessie. Do you have any idea what approx year he might have ben born, died etc? There are quite a few David's in my tree.

Thanks Lisa!

I made a couple of mistakes though, Jessie Casement didn't die during childbirth, she died from Phlebitis which was brought on by childbirth.

Also William McDougall her son died in 2004.

Like i said I don't know a lot about the lives of David McDougall and Jessie Casement and I'm not sure when they were born, William McDougall their son was born in the 1920's so i would guess that Jessie and David would have been born either in the late 1800's or early 1900's. As for when David McDougall died my mum assures me that he died in the 70's, she's not sure of the date but that it might be 1972.

What i do have however are a few family photos of my grandfathers which we came into possesion of when he died.

Below is a picture of my Grandparents William McDougall (David & Jessie's son) & Janet Moore, this was taken on their wedding day in the late 1930's William and Janet are in the back of the picture, the woman to the left of my Gran is Sarah McDougall (William's sister) the man to the right of my grandfather is Mick, Sarah's husband.

This is a picture of William McDougall & Janet Moore with their first child David, this picture would have been taken in the mid to late 1940's.

This is a picture of William McDougall & Janet some years later with their five sons, this was before the birth of my mother so will be in the early to mid 50's.

William and Janet are in the centre.

Back row: David, Joseph.
Front row: Ian, Billy, Alistair.

This picture was taken in the early 1960's, The in woman in the far left of this picture is William and Janet's son David's first wife and to the right of her is a friend of hers, i am unsure of their names.

The woman in the far right of this picture is Janet Moore (William's wife) the boy beside her is Ian, the girl in the foreground holding the monkey is my mother Janet and beside her is Alistair.

This picture was taken in the late 1970's and is of my mother Janet (William and Janet's daughter, David and Jessie's grand daughter) and my father John (Gregson)

And finally this is the picture which i think you will be most interested in.

This picture is of David McDougall and Jessie Casement.

Hope some of this information helps you, if you any more questions just ask!!!

Hey Chrissey.

The Sarah i'm talking about (the one in the picture above) is my Grandfathers sister so my grans sister in law, her Maiden name was Sarah McDougall and her Mother and father are Jessie Casement (McDougall) and David McDougall so i don't think it's the same person.
