Hi All
I havent researched my 5 x Great Grandfather for a long time but since i recently did a dna test and added it to gedmatch i thought id have a search again for him
All i have is
Denis McDonald
Born circa 1771 Dublin
Not a lot i know 😮i have records for his marriage in Cornwall ( see attatched)and his 2 childrens baptisms but no death record ?
Is anyone out there that would good enough to do me a quick look for him on Ancestry please? Or if you have him in your tree or can give me any tips or advice id be extremely greatful thank you
I thought i owe it to him to try one last time things have come along way since i looked interestingly my dna showed no Irish dna which may tie in with rumour that Denis parents fled to Ireland after Culloden ?
Many thanks
Kind regards
Duncan

Their last child Mary McDonald baptised in Paul in October 1809
There is a marriage in 23 July 1812 Paul, Cornwall for Widow Mary McDonald to Thomas Richards. I see they go on to have several children.
No burial for Dennis McDonald found between 1808 and 1812 in Cornwall.
Is it possible he fought in the Napoleonic wars and died abroad?
Why do you think he was born in Ireland?

Hello
If you go to the military records on Ancestry or FindMyPast there is a Denis Macdonald born 1771-1774 st Michael's Dublin.
He's in the 2nd Reg ,then 33rd and finally 59th Regiment. Signed up 25.10.1793 and pensioned off 24.7.1821.
5ft 7in brown hair grey eyes ex lab with dark complexion.
Signed off as worn out 24.10.1820 at Bengal.
His pension was paid in Lanarkshire Lesmahagow nr Glasgow
He died 2.8.1857 .
There is more on Fold 3 but I don't have the subscription.
1841 Lesmahgow Dublin Row
Denis 69 Ireland pensioner
Mary wife 39
Helen 22 y
Gilbert 10
Jane/Jean 7
James 5
David 3
1851 has them in same village at Linnville
Mary is now from Hilsborough Down and little James is missing.
Marriage 3.12.1827 to Mary Price at Lesmahagow.
Could they just have split?
If it is the same bloke he was alive until 1857.
Denis's parents are given as Gilbert and Helen on a family tree presumably from a Death Cert.

Hi Cider drinker
Thanks for taking time out to reply
Ive had others say this and also been told that back then you didnt need a death cert to remarry so if they did do a bunk off to Canada USA etc they just say hed died no death cert for him either as ive checked ?
The only thing might go against it is seeing where was his regiments based during his time in cornwall ? Doubt i could find this out either unless i cam somehow find access via chelsea pensioner records
Id love to be able to finally say this is him after years of trying 😮🙏🏻
As for cider drinking my prefererd ones are Old Rosie and Westons 8.4 😮😁🙏🏻thanks for the looks ups anything else you think may help please feel free to help all the best 👌
