Title: Cany anyone advise me on how to look up naturalization records for NY?
Post by: Gemmima on Wednesday 24 September 25 17:10 BST (UK)
Hi

I have never used US rescources before and don't know how to go about naturalization records.

I am looking for advice on how to find the record for a John Lightholder. Accordng to the 1920 Census he arrived in 1906 and was naturalized in 1919. It seems he settled in the Bronx. He was born in Ireland approximately 1853 and he was a bricklayer.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Gemmima

https://naturalization.nycourts.gov/  If you just search with the last name Lightholder and change "county filed" to Bronx, it looks like his Declaration of Intention comes up.  There are 2 other Lightholders there, in case they're related.

You're welcome.  There is also an entry for a petition for naturalization (which would be the later record) for John Lightholder in the Bronx in the index here - https://www.italiangen.org/databases/search/?db=natural  I'm not sure if that record is available online.
