took me a while but I managed to find a readable death notice for William too It was also published the day before but the online version is almost unreadable ( hurrah for notices placed on two days!)
his death notice does confirm he was buried at (St Albans) Churchyard and also confirms he had re-married

this looks to be a possible marriage registration
Q3 1949 Durham N.E. 1a 1269
William Robson and Elizabeth J Simpson (? Jean may have been her middle name and the one she was known by)
St Albans burial register

though the entry has not been completed, perhaps as it was the last on the page and they forgot to go back to it? Plus they may not have taken a note of the details of the Methodist Minister who conducted the funeral service and, presumably, the graveside service?

Ken was William's only child so I wonder why he did not get a mention at the funeral?
William was the youngest & my wife's father also Ken did see him in WW2 when he lay in bed with an injury. He was named after Ken but never mentioned him.

Not sure what you mean - are you referring to the actual funeral or the notice in the newspaper saying he had died and giving the details of the funeral? If its the notice in the newspaper its not uncommon not to name anyone other than a deceased's spouse -as they did when Mary Jane died.
There were various In Memoriam Notices published the following year (on 11th as the 12th was a Sunday so no Evening Chronicle) including one from his son and family. No the best scan but it should be readable

I have never seen posts a year after before so many thanks for the eye opener.
Ken dtr in law Evelyne & a grandchild wow there were 3 boys eventually!!
I just saw an Elizabeth J Simpson on 1939 A spinster - Robson & M FFN 31 8 49 was added later in blue ink. She was living with her parents at 40 Waggon Way ....not sure of address but is 31/8/49 a marriage date or just some other date? Good tie in
On Mary Jane being Mollie or Molly I dont blame her as there were 3 Mary Janes in her family

I think (though its not the best quality scan) that it actually says 'and grandsons' so check the birth years of the known children and you can sort out which ones were born prior to Nov 1967.
These In Memoriam Notices can be useful for sorting out extended family, not everyone placed them in the newspapers at all, though some people kept them up every year for a good many years. Hit n miss to find them.

It was the NHS who recorded the change of name during the years they updated the register. Only way to know if that the actual marriage date or the date she told her Doctor she had married and had a new surname would be to buy the marriage cert. The marriage was registered in Q3 so it could have been anytime between 1st Jul. and 30 Sept.
It is a good tie in, I like connections (she's recorded with her parents in 1911 and 1921 too) and given the death date from the register this looks quite likely to be her death registration
Deaths 1982 Q4 ROBSON Elizabeth Jane (d.o.b. 21 Dec 1905) Gateshead 2 88
have failed so far to find a death notice in the newspapers:-(
If you check her out in 1911 and 1921 you'll see she had a brother who may well have been the 'brother in law' who placed a notice.

Hi Boo a year on the people I struggled to identify were the living "children" and their husbands n wives. Thing is there was Ken, a Jean and these were different people. The kindness they showed William was stunning. William did have a surviving brother John but he & his family were just not interested in keeping family ties
Ta 4 your post

This is getting too recent for public discussion especially as Rootschat rules say we don't discuss living people and I don't have time to make sure all the people are now deceased.
I'll reply later PM as you've posted this and also sent me a PM about it.

I am sure you are right, but you didn't mention it and without lots of research there is no way I'd know that.
