Title: Passenger departures list ex Sydney to Hong Kong February 1927
Post by: Helenw52 on Wednesday 24 September 25 02:26 BST (UK)
Looking for the shipping list with Ng Chuen Yik (or Ng Chuen Yip). He departed ex-Auckland on SS Marama bound for Sydney on 4 February 1927. Can any one point me in the right direction for a ship from Sydney to Hong Kong - possibly later February 1927.

They are held at the NAA, you would need to search in person.

The National Archives holds detailed passenger records for arrivals and departures at all Australian ports from 1924. This is when passenger arrivals became an Australian Government responsibility.

Thanks Dundee. Are the records not available on line - like New Zealand?

If you are after possible ships from Sydney to Hong Kong, you could try searching trove. This probably won't include all passenger names.

For example, in February 1927 there was the Taiping which left Sydney 19 Feb for Manilla and Hong Kong.

Thanks Maddy. That was some help. Does Australia have it's own "Searching passenger lists" like NZ?

Their criteria for digitisation is to prioritise records that are high-use, high-value or at-risk.  Unfortunately I don't think departure records would be something that a lot of people would be interested in so you might have to wait awhile.
