Hi
Any pointers would be great!
I have records of Thomas Manning born 1851 in Galway. He appears getting married in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England in 1877 at a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. I can't find any records in England prior to that one. Lots after then. On all the census returns he states he's from Ireland, County Galway.
I know little about Irelands records, and I'm not sure where to begin! We are getting the marriage certificate as its not online, so at the moment I don't have his fathers name. Ancestry hints he could have been Hubert Manning, but as yet I only have the software algorithm's to tell me this!
thanks

"On all the census returns he states he's from Ireland - County Galway"
County Galway only appears on the 1891 - all other entries just say Ireland.
No info given re who he married in 1877 - it was Emma Geeson

Thomas doesn't have any children named Hubert, which you might expect if that was his father's name.
It is best to wait for marriage certificate to get name and occupation of his father.

Thanks for those who have replied. We will get the marriage certificate. As for "Hubert" - like I said, this is only an Ancestry hint, therefore, needs to be taken with a pinch of salt until evidence can be found.
So, can anyone tell me where I can search for records for Ireland pre-1877? I can't find him on the 1871 census in England, therefore I assume he arrived between 1871 and his wedding in 1877.
Thanks

Maguire/McGuire is a very common surname in Ireland so best wait until you have his fathers name from the marriage cert.
