Help please!
I'm trying to confirm the parents of Mary Kemp. She baptises a son, William, at Besthorpe, Norfolk in 1820 as a singlewoman so I think it's a good chance she is the Mary Kemp, baptised 27.7.1800 at Besthorpe, parents Robert and Susannah Kemp.
However, I can't find another Susannah baptism, nor a marriage. In the same church a Robert Kemp baptises a William in 1802, mother Hannah - haven't found another Hannah baptism or a marriage.
In 1805 a Sarah Kemp is baptised in that same church by a Robert Kemp and Frances. I found a marriage of a Robert Kemp to a Frances Neave in Bunwell in 1794.
There is a marriage between Robert Kemp and Susan Raynes in 1802 in Carleton Rodes and I've found 9 baptisms at that church from 1803 onwards.
I suppose it's very likely that Susan and Susannah are the same person, and Mary arrived before a wedding but how do I prove it? And how to explain the other Robert/Besthorpe baptisms?
Any thoughts very welcome. Better still, any info that makes it all clear ;D

Parish records of Bunwell
Removal Order: Robert Kemp and his wife, Frances
2 Oct 1795
Removed from Bunwell to Besthorpe
https://nrocatalogue.norfolk.gov.uk/index.php/removal-order-robert-kemp-and-his-wife-frances
The Sarah baptism in 1805 says mother Francis, late Neave.
Other baptisms indexed at Besthorpe, father Robert Kemp
1797 Robert, mother Frances
1809 Benjamin, mother Sarah, late Nave
So we have Frances, Susanna, Hannah and Sarah as mum.
I suppose Susanna and Hannah could get mixed up :-\
Or they just seem to have trouble with the name of Robert's wife?

Thankyou for the removal order - that's an interesting extra ;D
I don't know what to make of the flexible names for the mums. There are far too many Robert Kemps in the area!

Hi
It seems likely that Frances and Sarah are the same person, as the maiden name is given. The baptisms are spaced out as well.
That William baptism in 1820, it does say that the mother is Mary Ann Kemp. Does that make a difference?

And there is a burial at Besthorpe of a Susanna Kemp, 4 June 1804. Who she? :-\

Things are getting complicated!

Ah, that's what the squiggle said: Mary ANN! At the mo, I don't think it matters unless I find a burial for a younger Mary. But Mary's mum was Susannah - is she the burial you've found perhaps, or another baby? It's baffling!

I still think a mistake in the register is the most explanation, but there does seem to have been a Susan or Susanna in Besthorpe.
There are some overseers accounts available, I think they go up to 1812.
Susan Kemp was getting relief at the time

It doesn't say she was a widow. And there are some earlier payments to Robert Kemp and to Robert Kemp's wife.
It may be worth trawling through the accounts for a few years to see if anything becomes clearer.

Thank you, jon - I'll do some account trawling and see where that leads me.
Thank you. ;D
