Evening everyone.
For the very first time, Im attempting research in Ireland and not really sure where or how to get started. Just wondering if someone can give me a push in the right direction. Not sure either how census or church records work in Ireland compared to UK regarding coverage etc.
Ive got a William Thomas Philpott born 1908 in Cork. He made his way to England (Hastings/London area) and know a bit about his life here, but theres nothing of his early days in Ireland.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
David.

Death Index in England gives his supposed DOB. And using that ive found a William Thomas Philpott in Ireland, Civil Registration Births Index, 1864-1958 on Ancestry. 1908 Cork, Ireland. His marriage certificate in Sussex 1944 doesnt give a father. Not a direct ancestor no. And died Eastbourne registration district 1971.
Thanks.

Is this the man you are researching?
Where do you see him using a second given name?
Can you list all the information on the marriage certificate, 1944.
Do you see him in England before the marriage, 1944?
