Title: Help locating two houses
Post by: May2488 on Saturday 20 September 25 18:01 BST (UK)
Hi, i have been trying to locate these two houses for ages now but can't seem to get anywhere. I though maybe someone else could crack it!

1
I think this one is either in Blandford (Dorset) or in Sussex somewhere. Also is labeled in the album as the "Davidson House" (The family name).

2 Possibly Kingston upon Thames (London) but not sure.

Thank You!

Roughly what timescale is involved?

If you mean the the dates i think both are between 1900- 1925. If not could you explain more what you mean?

(There is no date on the backs)

Based on the cars outside, neither photo is earlier that 1910, and probably more like 1915 onwards.
The first house looks unlike any I have seen around Blandford.

I completely forgot about the cars! I also agree that it is probably not in Blandford. Will look again tomorrow!

Wait! Just found another picture of (i think!) the same car with an license plate! Would this help at all?

FX was a Dorset registration. https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/fx.htm

The two letters and up to three digits system started in 1904 and it wasn't until 1934 the three letter / three number variants of the county codes were introduced. In other words there were only 999 cars registered in Dorset between those dates. Obviously 908 is towards the end of that group, but I don't think it means that this car was registered as late as the early 1930s, because registration numbers could have been reissued.

On photo no. 2 there appears to be something written on the gate, it looks like it could be a 2 digit number and a name.  Could you get a magnifying glass on the original photo to try and read it?

Tried my best but it's super blurry. 19 ? 6/5. Also the license plate looks like it says CD (52?) which is used in Brighton. So that might narrow it down. (It also fits the timeline JAN 1904 -> JUL 1925)

Found another picture in the album that looks to be in the front garden of the left house (for no.2) dated august 13th 1917. No names though.   Have also looked though the electoral register for names and addresses relating to the family but found nothing new. Starting to lose hope!
