Hi
There was a baptism of a girl named Sidwill at Winkleigh, Devon at the beginning of April 1640.
FindMyPast has two versions of this. The one with the original record does not give a surname and the one without gives her surname as Crewes.
Can anyone decipher the original record, please?
My 7th gt-grandmother married at Winkleigh, Devon in 1668, as Sidwell Snell. This could be the same person, as above. She might have married a Snell before 1668, or perhaps she was taken in by the Snell family, who lived in Winkleigh?
Thanks,
Gordon

That's the one - but what does it say, please?

I think I can see Ludovici Crewes

FindMyPast also has the baptisms (images/transcripts) of
Ellinor Cruse, 28 Jun 1646, father Leodevici, place Winkleigh
Eliz Crusse, 19 Aug 1643, father Leodevici, place Winkleigh

The originals show month of birth before baptismal given name. In Sidwill's case she appears between "? Aprilis Rosa" and 7 Aprilis Thomas" yet the month against her appears to be "Novembris"?

The first words in the entry are 'Eodem die' - on the same day, i.e. the same as the previous entry.

Thanks very much for clearing this up.
There appears to be a word between "Leodivici" and "baptised" - could this be a surname?

Thanks for clarifying. I could see a Novembris elsewhere on the page and "read" Sidwill's line entry as the same - tho' there were differences.
Thanks again.

Yes, and it looks like Crewes. See my earlier post.
