Can anyone help with identifying this uniform?

Very poor image, but it may be the collar badge depicting the King's (Liverpool) Regiment

There is a Facebook group for the King's Liverpool Regiment as this may be the correct uniform as suggested by AllanUK. The owners have extensive knowledge and personal memorabilia of the KLR.

Do you have a Name for the Person ?
-
He is not in the Kings but the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry
The badge is of the Thane in armour on a horse.
-
The Kings collar badge for comparison.

Hi Allan
I don’t have very much information about this fellow.
He’s my wife’s uncle. He was born in 1919 in Glasgow.
This is as much as I know….
Thanks for your help.

His uniform is pre 1940 as it was replaced by battledress. As a Fife and Forfar Yeoman he was in a Scottish Territorial Army unit which ties in with his birthplace. The clothing and haircut match the 1930s. Have you tried to find them on the 1939 register?

Hi Allan
Is the 1939 register not just for England?
Thanks
-
The 1939 Register for Scotland is not available online, but is held by the National Records of Scotland.

The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry recruited in the North around Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness. They were only a company between the wars but were raised back up to regimental strength in 1939 and formed a second regiment in the same year. As your man was 20 in 1939 then this may be when he volunteered. The fact he is wearing a pre war tunic suggests this was taken in 1939 before battledress was issued. It does suggest he joined the Territorials rather than was conscripted. This means he was probably living in their recruiting area. Does that tie in with anything you know?
The 1st F&F Yeomanry were at Dunkirk whilst the 2nd did not see action until France in 1944. His service record would tell you which one he was in and where he fought. They were an armoured recconaissance regiment based in armoured cars and light tanks.

Hi Allan
I know very little about Martin.
Apparently he “disappeared”.
I have found a possible marriage and death ( don’t have the certificates)
There’s a long story behind the Burns family…..it was quite unique….his parents were sentenced for bigamy in 1925. His mother Marjory had married in 1908 to Toby Wilders. He was an Irish showman.
James Burns ( Martins dad was present at the 1908 marriage and he also worked in the fairgrounds)They separated soon after the marriage. Marjory had 10 children.
I have plenty information on most of the other children……can’t find any death details for Martin’s father.
Cheers

Have you considered he went to France in 1940 and was a casualty?
-
Hi Allan
He certainly was a man of mystery!
The other thing people said about him was he looked like the king!
