Post by: smokeyfeline on Thursday 18 September 25 11:31 BST (UK)
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to find any information on Harry my Great Uncle, I have read a newspaper cutting stating he was awarded a Silver Badge but can find no record, I also can find no trace of his service apart from the record in the Wigtoft - WW1 Book of Remembrance excerpt below, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Men who appeared to have dodged war service were frequently given white feathers by members of the public, especially women who thought they were cowards. The silver badge was awarded to those discharged through injury or illness. It indicated that they had done their bit and were not shirkers.

Three quarters of WW1 service records were lost in a fire in WW2, so your man’s records were probably amongst this lost.

I think he is recorded as Henry Tasker Reg number 9411 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. The Silver War Badge Roll states enlisted 29-8-12 and discharged 10-2 -17. His medal card shows British War and Victory medals. It says he was part of the British Expedtionary Force , disembarking 13-8-14.

Thank you all for your kind help, very appreciated, I am now off to find out what happened to him after 1917 as, so far, I have found no trace of him in the '21 or '39 records. My Grandmother to my recollection never mentioned him.
