Title: What became of Edgar Roy Arbuckle?
Post by: Erato on Wednesday 17 September 25 15:10 BST (UK)
Edgar Roy Arbuckle was born on 12 February 1928 in Everett, Snohomish County, Washington, son of Raymond Cecil Arbuckle and Mildred Getschman.  He was recorded on the 1930 census with his parents and two step-brothers in Winter Lake Precinct, Snohomish County, Washington.  His mother died on 6 March 1932 when Edgar was just four years old.

I have found no trace of him since 1930.

I wonder if he was adopted by another couple after his mother died.  There is an Edgar Raymond Royer who was born 13 Feb 1928 in Everett according his WWII draft registration card.  In the 1940 census, he appears to be listed as the son of Charles & Estella Royer in Kirkland, WA, but this couple has no children with them in the 1930 census.

Social Security death index has a death date of 6 Jul. 1994 with last residence in Big Lake, Matanuska Susitna Co., Alaska.  Social Security application has the above Royer parents listed.

Thanks, shellyesq.  That looks like a good possibility.  I'll save it as a 'maybe.'

You're welcome.  It looks like Raymond was not mentioned at all in Mildred's obituary, so maybe he was out of the picture by then.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-daily-herald-obituary-for-mildred-ar/181237718/

The obituary mentions three sons - Howard, Emil and Eddy.  I think Eddy must have been Edgar.  The other two were children of her first marriage and considerably older than Edgar.  As for Raymond, he probably was out of the picture, at least physically speaking.  He was a logger, so he may have been away at a logging camp.  He was not the informant on the death certificate - that unpleasant duty fell to Emil, who was 14 at the time.  Later, on the 1940 census, Raymond called himself divorced, not widowed, but I have found no record of a divorce.

Her brother also filed to be the administrator of Mildred's estate.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9YM-YS6B-F?view=fullText&keywords=MILDRED%20ARBUCKLE%2CMildred%20Arbuckle&lang=en&groupId=

Not sure if this is the same guy, as Spokane seems further away and a different profession is mentioned, but there is a Raymond Arbuckle who was arrested in 1930.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/spokane-chronicle/181236167/

Ah, the brother's name was also Emil, so he must have been the informant on the death certificate, not the 14-year-old son.

As for the crook in Spokane, I'll call it a 'maybe.'  I don't have a good impression of Raymond, so I can't count it out entirely, though I have no reason to think he was in Spokane except that he did have some relatives there [aunt, uncle and cousins].

I found Edgar's marriage [in Los Angeles in 1947] to Yvonne Andre Brummett.  Incredibly, she was a widow aged 16!  I think her first husband was probably Fred Arlen Brummett who died of liver cancer on 21 May 1946, aged 22.  He was recorded as single on his death certificate but all of the other Brummett deaths in that time period were oldsters.  I haven't found any record of Yvonne's marriage to anyone named Brummett - maybe it was a "common law" arrangement.

Whether Edgar remained married to Yvonne is doubtful.  On the 1950 census, he was living in Los Angeles with a wife named Barbara who was born in Colorado.

I was wrong.  She didn't marry Fred Arlen Brummett.  She married Edward Leroy Brummett in King County, Washington on 25 June 1945.

Per the obituary for Edgar & Barbara's son, Barbara was Barbara A. Stewart.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/anchorage-daily-news/181289067/

Good grief - there were nine brothers with a total of six surnames plus four sisters with one additional surname. It sounds complicated.
