Need help with name of WW1 soldier third from top on this list on rear of 1917 postcard
please. Written in pencil.
-
Deleted. Sorry, misread request.
-
Thankyou macwill I am looking for ideas on the third name from the top.
-
I know the last letter looks very much like a ‘p’ but the descender doesn’t descend, so I think it is:
W. Took
-
Yes Jen, I realised that as soon as I posted and deleted it as you posted.
-
Thanks Macwil. Jen.
-
Unfortunately there was no record for a W.Took on the WW1 service records on the National
Archives of Australia website.
-
Loop maybe

Thankyou Mudmonster. You are close. Most of these soldiers are from Wondai in Queensland.
I have just checked the Wondai Honour Board and found the name Wilfred James Toop. I think
that is the name on the postcard.
Thanks to all who have assisted. Jen.

There are several Toops in the Australian WW1 records: including Walter, William and Wilfred Toop
-
Thanks ShaunJ I will look up the record for Wilfred now.
-
Just for interest, here is the front of the postcard, 8 soldiers on board HMAT Ayrshire 24.1.1917.
Photo beautifully restored by RC member. Wilfred Toop is third from left.

Darkened.
