I thought I would post this on the Devon page as a familiarity with place names might be more helpful than ease of reading old handwriting.
The place I am trying to discover is circled in yellow in the accompanying photo.
It has been transcribed at Southminster, which is in Essex not Devon and I really don’t think it looks like that. The only Devon place name with South that I can think of, apart from South Hams, is South Milton.
Does anyone have any thoughts please?

South Molton

I'd agree it could well be South Moulton.
About 10 miles south of Barnstaple.
It has a nice Victorian pannier market if I remember correctly!
