Hi everyone,
I have just bought the following death certificate for a family member.
Date and Place of Death: 17th April 1856, Hall Fields
Name: Richard Brown
Age and Sex: 26 years, male
Occupation: Labourer
Informant Name: Thomas Moss Phillips, Coroner, Wolverhampton
Date of Registration: 25th June 1856
Causes of Death: 1. Crush upon his Side, Accidental, 2 days
I'm not sure if there was any inquest as it isnt mentioned here. I wondered, despite this being so long ago, if anything had made it into a newspaper article.

There was a Hall Fields Colliery in the Bilston area (Bilston about about 3 miles from Wolverhampton), a Court Case mentioning a theft at the Colliery on 27th March 1856 was reported. (Staffordshire Advertiser, 12th April 1856)
Bilston was in the Registration District of Wolverhampton ...

However, it could of been a farm or a cart or other accident and that was the nearest location.
If it says the Coroner was reporting the death as the Informant, the incident was definitely reported to him.
There are some Colliery accidents are listed, but they don't seem to have another death, at Hall Fields Colliery, Handley, regarding John Hartshorne, a dip-runner, who was accidentally killed at one of Mr. Cope’s pits, at Hall Field’s Colliery ... reported in the 12th January 1856 Staffordshire Sentinel, newspaper.

There is also the National Coal Mining Museum and some other websites that record mining accidents to check if they might have a listing or not?
