Title: Surrey residents date unknown
Post by: LostSheep2 on Friday 12 September 25 10:39 BST (UK)
Another family photo of unknown people.

Can anyone give an approximate date. I know I had ancestors living in the Fetcham area of Surrey up to the 1880s, but nobody I think from Redhill. Thanks.

The woman standing by the gate is wearing clothing (& hairstyle)
typical of the 1870's.

Does not Redhill relate to the photographer, Smith & Co

No 49 mentions them -Smith & Co. of the Clarendon Studio, London Road, Redhill

Thanks for your replies.

I was wondering about the photographer and whether they would go door to door in an area offering to take photos. I seem to have a few like that, where the house is the prominent feature.

1870s would fit with my family from Surrey. I know that my 2x great grandparents were living in the Alms houses at Fetcham in the 1881 census. What I'm not sure about, is what the Alms houses looked like at the time.

The 1881 does indicate that there were 4  'inhabited houses' under the Almshouse entry - Schedule numbers 31/31* -32 - 33 & 34.
