I could really use a little help with the meaning of a couple of abbreviations used in an entry in the A.O. covering 1500 - 1714 (Phanne to Popejoy), for Jonathan Pickard. Next to his first name is the abbreviation "sev.," and "p.p." appears just before the words "St Edmund Hall." I've tried looking online for enlightenment, but had no joy so far, so am hoping there is someone out there who knows these things.

says p.p. is "pauper puer" and there is a reference to further look at - which I haven't.

That's really helpful, thank you. One problem solved! I recently discovered that Jonathan had been adopted by Rachel Fane, Countess of Bath at Tawstock House in Devon, at a couple of weeks old, and she more or less brought him up, so that tallies with my findings.
