Thanks to Annie and Ladyhawk - yes - thats them.. thankyou. Im interested to know more about Sarah in particular and why she went from Crewe Kerne to Birmingham - or whether she went first to Gloucester.
-
It appears she moved around the southwest a bit with her family.
In 1851, the family were in Loders, Dorset. The oldest 3 children (including Sarah) were born in Crewkerne, the youngest in Loders.
1861 they were living in Sherborne, Dorset. I can't see Sarah in 1871 on a brief look but her parents and youngest brother were still in Sherborne, as was her older sister Elizabeth (a servant in a different household).
Is there any particular reason to think she may have been in Gloucester?
-
Hi Annie - my mother always said that an earlier David Jones came from Gloucester and that the family originated in Wales. Bu I think David J Jones who married Sarah Guy was born in Birmingham, as was his father before him - but Im not sure.
Also I would like to know more about Sarah after she went to Birmingham
Are you also interested in these families or someone else?
-
Do you have David's marriage cert to get his father's name? This looks like David's birth:
JONES, DAVID JOHN
Mother's maiden surname: BENNETT
GRO Reference: 1849 S Quarter in BIRMINGHAM Volume 16 Page 275
David JONES and Judith BENNETT were married in 1833 in Birmingham. In 1851 David states he was born in Handsworth, Staffordshire and Judith was born in Upton on Severn in Worcestershire.

With the surname Jones, it's a fair bet that the family came from Wales at some point! But your problem might be in finding out when. There are an awful lot of Jones families!
-
thankyou Dundee - thats interesting. So David John Jones was born in 1851 in Birmingham and his father, another David Jones seems to have been born in Handsworth.
Im told that my grandfather David Jones had a brother, William Jones who had been a trades union activist in Birmingham and Rochdale - any info on him, or more on why Sarah Guy went to Birmingham and what she was doing there. I think she might have been employed in a hotel...
-
If you get a copy of the marriage certificate, it will say whether Sarah was working at the time of the wedding.
-
thanks - Im not sure how I can do that - any suggestions for a beginner

Im now looking for any information on one Minnie Jones, who my mother recalled 'lived in Halifax as part of my Jones family who lived for a time with David Jones and his wife Ada (Dean) and then married Charlie; and their two daughters – Betty and Jean – still live in Halifax. Any suggestions?
