Can anyone help?
JOHN THORNTON died on 2 Jan 1921 after serving with the Labour Corps and previously with the Scottish Rifles. Aged 34, he was the husband of Christina Thornton and son of the late John and Elizabeth Thornton.
John died in Dundee Royal Infirmary but his home address was at 155 Rosebank Street, Dundee.
He is entitled to a War Grave designation but this can only be achieved if proof of burial can be established.
Does anyone know where John Thornton is buried? Any piece of information in that regard would be gratefully received.

Inquiries to Dundee City Council have produced no trace of a burial in a municipal cemetery. Looks like he's in a church graveyard.

According to Scotlands People, the marriage took place on 2 Jan 1906. John's usual place of residence was given as East North Street, Aberdeen; Christina was a housekeeper in Dundee. Married at Reform Street, Dundee before witnesses. Does that imply marriage at a Registry Office (or Scottish equivalent) rather than a church?

No.
Until towards the end of the 19th century it was unusual for a wedding ceremony to take place in a church building. Usually the wedding would be held in the bride's parents' home or, if she had no parents or was marrying a long way from home, in the manse (the minister's house) or in her employer's house if she was in domestic service.
As far as I am aware Registrars in Scotland did not conduct wedding ceremonies until well after 1906. In my tree I have about 440 marriages in Registrars' offices, the earliest in 1940.
