I have found a reference to a marriage in Mallow, Co Cork for a Frederick Donnell MacDonald in October 1908 but it gives the spouse name as 'unknown'. I know he lived in Mallow in 1901 and his younger brother Douglas William was demobbed at Mallow in 1902 but l have been unable to find anything on this even in Mallow or Fredericks area of London. Does anyone know any more of this please?

Wow that was quick and it's definately the right fellow. Its also the first sign I have that he was a soldier.
Thanks ever so much to both of you.

Sorry Rosie. I'd missed your second post while typing. I tried getting into the census but without any luck. Are you able to give me a link for that.
Thanks again.

I can see on the baptisms of the children of Alexander MacDonald in Greenwich his occupation is as you said Tailor
Rosie
-
I can see his father Alexander died 1879 Frederick would have been quite young and maybe unsure of his father's occupation

Quite true and within about 10 months Frederick and his younger brother Normanhad been bundled off to a paupers school which would have been confusing. He had a second brother, Douglas, (my grandfather) who managed to stay at home with his mother until he went in the army and trained at Mallow which is why the family seemed to end up there.
