Title: Williams of staffordshire and hackney London
Post by: frederickay on Friday 05 September 25 04:31 BST (UK)
Hi , My brother is looking at finding a coat of arms for our Williams family . In 1794 they were in Staffordshire of unknown origin or employment . The next generation John Williams was in Hackney London and I believe the family are there to this day . They seem to have been labourers , tailors and I dong think they would have a coat of arms . Where would I start to look in case I am wrong . Is there a generic one and does it have any relevance to our family . I know nothing of heraldry or where to start . Thank you . Fred .

Lots more expert people on here but, as far as I know arms are awarded to an individual, and can be passed down the legitimate male line. They are not given to a family or attached to a surname.
