I have found reference to the imprisonment of Mary Sellers, born 1817 Marple, Cheshire in 1847 Salford.

Any information about this record would be very much appreciated.

She was arrested for being Drunk and Riotous and was sentenced to 14 days in Strangeways Prison

It was a bit of a stretch that this was going to be the Mary as I was looking for as little information is available about her.

The FindMyPast index reads "Mary Sellars, born 1817, year 1847.
But looking at the original register the column headed "When received and committed by whom" reads 1874. The pages before and after are headed 1874 also.

There's a Mary Sellars in prison on the 81 Census - age 36, prisoner, occ. charwoman, born Marple - address Hyde Rd, Gorton, Manchester.

The occupation of the Mary Sellars on the 1874/1847? prison register is Charwoman.

FindMyPast has a prison record of a Mary Sellars, born Marple, being committed/sentenced (6 months) in 1879.

The Mary I am looking for was born c 1812 - 1817. This new info puts into doubt she is my Mary.

Mary in prison in 1881 aged 36 is too young.

I have found Mary in the census born Marple. Not my Mary though.
