Hello
I would welcome opinions on whether the entry for the grandaughter in the attached refers to Ann Henry or Ann Harry? It is from the Will of William Rees (1765-1843) of Cilwnwg Fach, Hengoed, Llanelly written in 1837.
I am also trying to unravel the relationship with little success. It says she is his grandaughter, daughter of David Hugh. But if she is David’s daughter why is she not called Ann Hugh/Rees. I am presuming she is an illegitimate daughter of one of William’s daughters. Known daughters are Ann Rees (1787) who married an Edward Hugh (so there is a Hugh connection of sorts) and Hannah Rees (1793) who married a Thomas Howel.
I have tried looking for Ann Henry/Harry in the 1841 census with no obvious match.
I have tried looking for Ann Henry/Harry marriages 1837-1841 but any that are recorded don’t have their father as David Hugh
I have tried looking for Ann Rees and Henry/Harry surname marriages before 1837 with no luck and similarity for Ann Hugh and Henry/ Harry surname marriages with no luck.
I have also tried looking for Ann Henry/Harry deaths 1837-1841. There is an Anne Harry death but she was age 2 and therefore born around 1838 after the Will was written
So I am a bit stumped! Maybe someone else has already come across her in the research or trees?

It just says "Ann my grand Daughter, and the daughter of David Hugh ...'
There is a crossing out just before the word 'my' that looks like an "H". Possibly the surname Hugh was originally going to be written.

I don't know anything about the family you are looking at,
but there is this birth of an Ann Hugh

Ah!!!!! Why didn’t I spot that! That’s why it’s always worth asking for a second opinion! Thank you.

Thanks. I will check this out. The Will was written on the 6 Oct 1837 and this Ann was baptised on the 13th Oct 1837, very newly born, if her, but can’t be excluded

Attached is the baptism referred to. David Hugh of Bryngwyn Mawr (a signatory of the Mynydd Sylen agreement) and his wife Ann. It looks to be 3 late baptisms of their children and Ann his daughter was born around 1832 from census records. David’s wife was Ann Bonnell not Rees and it seems very unlikely that William would have 2 daughters called Ann. William’s daughter Ann Rees (1787). married Edward Hugh (1781) and they are in the 1841 and 1851 census. However, I would not be surprised if David Hugh was a brother of Edward Hugh. Edward Hugh’s ancestry I have not been able to work out

This may the marriage in 1807 of David Hugh to Margaret Rees St. Eli. Possibly witnessed by her father (who married twice and the signatures are similar)
