Title: Blandford War Graves
Post by: May2488 on Wednesday 27 August 25 14:31 BST (UK)
Hi, I have been looking through a family album i bought of eBay a few years ago and found this picture-

I think it is at the Blandford Cemetery in Blandford Forum judging from the back. There also seems to be a lot of war graves there which lines up with the photo.  I am hoping someone could help me with this as i might be wrong!

There is an Army Camp at Blandford

Other services have been stationed there in the past

In WW1 Blandford Camp was used by the Royal Naval Division as their home base.  The camp was hutted and I don't believe it had a cemetary and there are no graves on it now.  So you are probably right that it is the time town's grave yard.

If this was a family photo album, are you looking for the person who was buried on that date in 2017

If the date and location are correct, a likely candidate subject is the funeral of Private Walter Gray 1st Reserve Bn. RMLI d.27-Jan-1917 Blandford.

Maybe not... according to deceased online Walter was buried 31-Jan-1917

Blandford is one of bases for the Royal Corps of Signals. It is also the home of their Museum. The Army have been there for years.

The Navy were there in 1917 and the photo is likely to be sailors in khaki uniforms and not Army.  The Royal Signals Museum used to have a RND display cabinet.

I looked through the album again and came across a Hilda Louise Davidson who died February 1917 in Blandford! This photo may relate to her? Not sure though!  ???
