Title: USA - British Subject
Post by: Diablo101 on Thursday 21 August 25 04:23 BST (UK)
Good afternoon!

I have read some others of these. But I have no idea where to go.
I have Edith Mary Jenkinson born USA - Noted as a British Subject. She married George Ernest Cecil in England, and so became Edith Mary Cecil.

Right before her marriage in 1901, I have her listed in England as Head of household, so no parents listed. I recently got her Marriage Certificate which listed a Frederick Jenkinson as her father, who was a foreman. But he wasn't a witness and cant conclude whether he was alive at the time.

However, I can find no USA Birth since it was NY in 1875 (I have heard about the US Census being destroyed etc), and I assumed her father, Frederick was British, I am unaware of his date of birth or the mother of Edith Mary Jenkinson.

I am seeking some help on where to find either her birth, or his marriage to a mother.

Have you looked for her in 1880 U.S. Census and 1881 U.K. Census? Both on Family Search.

You don't say when she was noted as a British subject!
Before or after her marriage?
She would have become a British subject automatically on marriage to same.

She would have become a British subject automatically on marriage to same.

Per the first post the 1901 census was prior to her marriage and that gives her birthplace as USA and notes she was a British Subject. She would qualify as a British Subject  based on parentage as both parents were born in England according to her New York Birth certificate.
