Title: A maiden name for Ann Priest (1767-1837)
Post by: FrancisGrn on Wednesday 20 August 25 08:37 BST (UK)
Dear all,
Hope everyone is having a great summer. I would like to ask for some help to try and find a maiden name and marriage certificate for an ancestor of mine. Ann married John Priest (1769-1835) some time in the 1780s or 1790s. The couple lived in Marylebone and baptised James (1796-), Sarah (1796-), Charles (1798-1858). Mary Ann (1800-), Samuel (1803-1837), Maria (1806-1822) and George Henry (1812-1888). All these children were baptised in Marylebone. An additional two children, Edward and Sarah, both b. 1797 were baptised in Pancras; it is unclear whether we're dealing with the same family here. Ann died at Lambeth Walk in '37, with her husband dying nearby in Park Place, Lambeth, aslo in the parish of St Mary's. So far, the couple's wedding certificate is stubbornly elusive, but I would lik eto find some evidence of their wedding in order to get a maiden name for Ann.
Best wishes,
Francis

James, Charles and Samuel were all baptised on the same day (23 May 1804)
DOBs are James 18 Aug 1796, Charles 29 May 1798, Samuel 16 Aug 1803??
Multiple baptisms can occur for a variety of reasons, one I have come across is to "legitimize" the children born out of wedlock. So you might be looking for a marriage just before this baptism date.

Sarah's DOB is given as 24 March 1796 on her baptism record, so unless there was an error in either hers or James' DOB, they cannot be siblings James (b 18 Aug 1796). Do we have two John / Anns in Marylebone?

Mary Ann was born 31 Oct 1800 bapt 30 Nov 1800, she would fit with the 3 brothers in terms of birth date, but why would the parents not have James and Charles baptised until a few years later if they were all siblings?

Maria was born 8 June 1806 and baptised 29 June 1806
George Henry was born 3 Aug 1810 and baptised 26 Aug 1810 not 1812

Have seen 'Collins' on ancestry too. No evidence attached to any of the trees though...
