Hi, I'm looking into my ancestor Joseph Rowlands. He owned or worked in a beer house on Chester Road. He was born about 1819 in Bishopwearmouth and died in 1880. According to his marriage record to Margaret Wilson, his father was John Rowlands, however I couldn't find a baptism for him or his mother. I would really appreciate any help, thank you :)!
-
Do you have him on census prior to 1871.
-
No unfortunately, he was a Master Mariner so I think he was away when the censuses were done because he wasnt in the household in the 1851 or 1861 censuses.
-
There was a Joseph Brass Rowland baptised at St Michael's Church, Bishopwearmouth on the 21/2/1819. Parents were
Joan John and Jane
-
What was his fathers occupation
...
1861 census RG09/4444 f74 p1 on the vessel 'Jane'
Joseph Rowland age 44 - Married bn Sunderland, Durham - occ Master

Sorry I don't know his father's occupation. I just found the marriage here https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NXPX-BKL?lang=en

His father would have been born prior to 1800 & the 1841/51 for Durham only has one possibility. Born 1794 Leyburn Yorkshire but surname is Rowland - not Rowlands. Occupation was farm bailiff in 1851. Wife Elizabeth.
In 1871 Joseph's wife is Mary & there are Scott stepchildren in household

For the record John's occupation was a mariner https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C3SW-S95H-9?cat=4128299&i=881&lang=en

Unfortunately the tree contains no actual evidence that I can see that his mother's name was Isabella. It also contains several other errors.

According to his marriage record to Margaret Wilson
Could this be his mother in law?
