Title: Place of birth on 1921 census
Post by: chempat on Wednesday 13 August 25 08:43 BST (UK)
I don't think the couple were married so was trying to find what name the son, Francis, was registered under - born in London South ?  Is South Belgravia a place?

Link, Ancestry, to census
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/63150/records/4277363

Thank-you

Belgravia is Kensington, Chelsea.  Perhaps they did not register him?  (And they were living in Southwark)

Belgravia is a district in Central London, covering parts of the areas of the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Perhaps they were being specific and referring to a street in Southwark.

You would get a specific date of birth from the 1939 register.

Presumably you haven't got Adelaide's surname. The 1921 census gives you age in years and months and her pob is Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire (not a big place) so you may be able to find her on a previous census with that information.

Adelaide Bennett seems to fit the bill

I can't find Adelaide Bennett and family after 1901. Her mother Naarah (she spelt it like that on marriage record) Bennett died in 1902.

Looks good, I found marriages for both sisters Edith and Emma (then with husbands on later censuses), but only transcriptions not actual records, so don't know if Adelaide was a witness. She would be about 12 / 13 in 1911, can't find a death, so maybe with a relative and listed with the relative's surname?

I also believe that she was Adelaide Bennett and have not found her in 1911.

I cannot find any marriage for Adelaide and Frederick and although Frederick claims married in 1939 he was in Liverpool and he could be referring to his legitimate wife who remains in Whitchurch or someone else. Frederick died in 1972, buried at Allerton cemetery.

Francis, in 1939, could be in the army.

Adelaide could have remained as Adelaide Williams or actually married someone else and she and Francis taken another name.

Still looking for Francis's birth registration.

Adelaide Williams, 29/08/1899, has a daughter Naarah in 1939.  Bingo

Can't find her (Naarah's) birth - should be dead as showing in 1939.

On her marriage record she had middle initials M and J, Maybe she was registered with a name beginning with M or J and Naarah was a middle name

Yes, that was what I was thinking.  And then also Francis might not have been his first name.

Is the Frederick Williams who died in Liverpool, Frederick Francis C Williams b 15 Feb 1891?
He has a single Williams female with him in 1939 who might be a daughter. The best fit is a birth in Southwark district Q1 1925 mmn Richards

Thank-you.
When I looked him up last year there was no-one else showing with him, and no-one yet there on Ancestry, just on FindMyPast.

That 1925 Southwark birth is for a  Muriel Adelaide, so looks good.

Added:
BUT as no birth for Francis nor Naarah found that Southwark could just be a co-incidence.

Going back to Francis and looking for Williams/Richard births in 1921.

There is a Thomas F Williams born in June qr 1921 at St Geo Hanover Square with mmn Richards in free bmd including index and showing as Thomas Francis on GRO.  However GRO has his mmn as Waitress.  I cannot see that surname showing anywhere at all on freebmd.

I think someone may have indexed an occupation, but sounds like the mother's. I did see an entry once when a bit of the address was indexed with the name.

Have we been wrong with Adelaide Bennett, or did she use the name Richards as well?

St Geo HS would fit with Belgravia.

Sorry, deleted.

Kay is obviously referring to Thomas Francis with Adelaide Richards a Waitress as mother.
