Title: BRYSON obituries & graves 1978 & 1998 HENRY and MARY ELIZABETH, LONDONDERRY, or
Post by: Doreen Peacock on Tuesday 12 August 25 20:37 BST (UK)
I'm searching for HENRY (HARRY BRYSON  died 1978 & MARY ELIZABETH BRYSON  nee Murtagh, died 1998) obituaries and graves(?), in the city. Both R.C.

Henry was in his 70's; his wife in her 90's when they died.

I haven't traced marriage certificate - 1930s (?) possibly married whilst serving in the Army? I know they had at least four children, probably all died by now.

One grandson killed by hit and run driver in the 1980's called Pearse (?)Thought to be in Derry.

Any advice and pointers would be gratefully appreciated.

HENRY (HARRY) BRYSON in his 70's in 1978 and MARY.ELIZABETH. or E.M BRYSON Nee MURTAGH in her 90's in 1998 when they died.  I believe they both died in Londonderry, where they resided most of their lives.

I'm searching for obituaries and/or gravestone inscriptions.

I haven't found marriage cert. Possibly married whilst in The Army in 1930's, They had at least 4 children, possibly all dead now. There was a grandson killed in hit and run - thought to be in Derry district in 1980's - called Pearse. (teenager?).

You've posted in How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here). However you've already made a few topics looking for Bryson information which will cause confusion and extra work for those trying to help.

Thank you for advice and pointing out my different approaches trying to tie put loose ends for this section of my distance Irish relations.

Both my Adopted and Biological family have been difficult to trace. This is the final link required.

My G. Grandfather was also Adopted in 1881. His mother was Irish/English with his mother's family coming from Monaghan, Tyrone and Derry.

His mother, my Gt. Grand mother went to Australia  on a Steam Ship - (one of the first;) and married a Cork Man who travelled in a Sailing Ship 'The Light Brigade' to Queensland in  with his parents and large family. Later his  birth father, wife and children also went to Australia!

Adopted family from English railway pioneers and Irish farmers in Tyrone.

Very interesting lives, in dangerous times. Hard workers, brave, innovative and resourceful.

I was interested in  my research for my roots since, 1960 when I was informed of my adoption; then I campaigned with various M.P's up to 1975 to change the 1958 Adoption Laws, after trying to apply for my original record in 1971 upwards by applying to Court  to have sight of my original record., after I was searching for medical links in biological family to help my son. According to the Law on the Statute books, we were allowed, under certain circumstances to apply; but as no one seemed to have applied, the Courts were reluctant to be the first to hear my case!

Each time I was getting close to a Hearing, the Court requested more medical evidence of my mental state... resulting in a final refusal "I didn't need medical assistance" - as "I would find what I needed without their help!" - Which was true, as after that final appointment, I located my birth record, slightly illegally (without knowing my birth name, or that of my mother) I broke the code, found the book of my original birth Entry; worked out where it was situated, and  within weeks  of the last rebuttal located it with a little help from a Journalist... This was written up in newspaper reports in 1975 - and Prior to the law being passed for Adoptees being allowed to apply for their certificate, 'after being counselled'.

Four hours after me obtaining my certificate, slightly illegally,  - I located my mother and half sister; and had 33 years of discovering and building a relationship with the family I was descended from., until they died.

I now would like to fill in the final links to my Family tree, and finish my life story, I've been drafting since Covid;  to pass onto surviving members of my family, of the heroes I found in my Biological line of their lives and bravery during, and prior to WW11. Their lives and stories matter to me, and I would like my branch to know something of their blood line to have some pride in, that have made us, 'What we are, and have become, and where we come from'  Therefore, I will leave no stone unturned to fit in the final pieces to complete my story and their family history from their blood line.

Rootschat have been a large part in locating some of the 'off grid' members of my bloodline. Which I am eternally grateful for their time, expertise and kindness in my endeavours, by giving me direct links and new avenues to explore.

I've got back 7 generations on my Stepfather's line back to the American Civil War, Colonel in the Southern Army, slave owner - who turned to preaching after freeing them; building a college, and recently his foundation now has the status of a university!

All close relations will have died, so I may have to resort to DNA., and find more distant relations, hoping they are not close enough to be upset by any infidelities that may be on their family line, and upset them. I don't think second and third generations will be scandalised or lose any sleep over discovering illegitimate second and third cousins coming out of the woodwork.

MANY THANK TO ALL WHO HAVE ASSISTED IN MY QUEST.  :)
