Post by: Fitz1 on Friday 08 August 25 06:12 BST (UK)
I am trying to locate a baptism for him.
1841 Census indicates him as Samuel Jervis born in about 1806 Warwickshire living in Bilton Warwickshire
1851 Census indicates him as Samuel Jervis born in about 1802 Rugby Warwickshire living in Bilton Warwickshire
1861 Census indicates him as Samuel Jarvis born in Rugby Warwickshire about 1802 living in Bilton Warwickshire
Samuel Jarvis died 25 Mar 1865 probate was 13 Nov 1865 Probate Registry Birmingham, England
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Was he a single gentleman?  Was probate to a relative?

Expect you have looked under different spellings.  If there are any other baptisms around that time they could be siblings but not every child was baptised.

Hello Milliepede,
Thanks for reply.
He married Sarah Askew 30 May 1824 at Bilton Warwickshire.
Probate was granted to his wife Sarah Jarvis of Bilton. She died in November 1888 and was buried in Bilton Warwickshire

Do you have the marriage witnesses?  If relatives that could lead to something.

Did they have children who might be named after a parent.

No relations with them on any census I suppose.  It is difficult finding births that far back.

Hello Milliepede,
So far I only have the marriage banns. Therefore no witness names.
They have t least 8 children. Their son Samuel Jarvis was born in about 1837.
Only their children seem to be named on census records.

The only couple I can see baptising children in Rugby at around that time are Joseph and Ann, there is a baptism for Catherine Jarvis 1799 and Hannah 1804. Looking at the images these two baptisms are in the same book. So it may be a case of looking at the pages in between to see if Samuel turns up, possibly not clearly written so mis-transcribed. Or a page could be missing from the original or missed out on scanning.

He married Sarah Askew 30 May 1824 at Bilton Warwickshire.

30th May was the third reading of the Banns, not marriage date. If you have found the banns image on Ancestry, it will have drop down at the top left corner giving date ranges. The banns were read in 1824, but in the marriage and banns book for 1825 - 1849. If you go to that drop down and select the 1800 - 1824 date range, the first part of the book will have marriage records and the second half banns records.
Looking at marriages in 1824, they go straight from William Masters 22 March 1824 to William Perkins 29 November 1824. The record numbers and pages are consecutive. The next marriage is 14 April 1825. So it looks like they didn't get married immediately following the May 1824 banns.
Either they didn't marry at all due to some impediment or married elsewhere later in which case there should be a second set of banns or a licence

Hello LizzieL and softly softly,
Their children were Mary, Sarah, Jane, Edward, Henry, Samuel, James and Charles.
It is thought that Samuel Jarvis father was Joseph Jarvis who married Ann Bunting 25 Oct 1796 at St Andrews Rugby Warwickshire. I have found a majority of who are believed to be his siblings baptism records and indeed they all show as Joseph and Ann Jarvis.
Looks like I will need to plough through baptism and marriage records page by page to see what I can find.
My thanks to you both for your replies.

The Banns say Sarah Askew is of St Michael's Coventry so I would imagine they married there or close by.

Census Sarah says she is from Bourton.
