Title: Brother of Mary Mitchell 1851 census
Post by: Philezra on Tuesday 05 August 25 22:10 BST (UK)
Hi.

Apologies if the attachment is too large/illegible.

It should be William Henry Seltynopp (according to the transcription in 1851 census).

Sister is Mary A Mitchell born 1825 in Plymouth. She has children James, Louisa and (also) William Henry.

Trying to find out his surname so that I can trace a marriage for her if possible.

Thank you in advance.

Phil

The 1844 marriage to Richard John Dennis has her father as William, a shipwright.

That 1844 marriage record for Richard John Dennis confirms his father was William Dennis, Shipwright. Richard was living in Stepney and married Elizabeth Mitchell, daughter of John Mitchell, wool comber. So if you’re tracing Mary (possibly Richard’s sister), and her marriage lists a William Dennis, shipwright, too—that’s a strong match. The Dennis family likely started in Monkleigh, Devon, and moved for shipyard work. That marriage record ties the whole line together nicely!

Thank you for these - I have found further info which confuses/puts doubt into some of the suggestions.

I have Mary Maddick born to Jane Lillicrap 6/1842 Plympton St Mary Union. She'd married Robert Maddick 6/1842. However, MARY ANN Maddick marries William Mitchell in 9/1845.....youngest Mary dies 12/1844??

I have William Henry Mitchell born 6/1850 mmn Lilycrap.

This ties in with the 1851 census where Mary Ann is living with her brother and three children..

Is James Hender Grant linked to Cambridge Street?

The civil birth was December quarter 1840 vol 9, pg 368
This fits with the baptism posted by Comberton earlier and is the only ‘James Hender’.
As the mother is Lilliecrap, it looks good.
You would have to purchase the birth certificate for the details.
