Title: How to find a birth certificate from Bessarabia
Post by: nicjhoughton on Monday 04 August 25 20:54 BST (UK)
Hello, my grandmother was born in 1908 in Bendery, Bessarabia. I am trying to obtain a birth certificate for her. I have used google translate on the National Archive of the Republic of Moldova but drawn a blank. I also started accessing church records of Moldova but the writing is in Cyrillic so struggling.

Not sure if there is an easier way to find out. She was a displaced person during World War 2 and ended up in Germany - I have found documents on Arolsen Archives which state no birth certificate with her.

Many thanks

Not sure if this helps but Goggle search has this to offer ???

"To locate a birth certificate from Bessarabia in 1908, you should first determine if the birth was registered with a Jewish congregation or a civil registry. Jewish records are often found on JewishGen, and civil records may be available through the Romanian National Archives or the FamilySearch library"

https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/romania/kishinevvrs.html

Like I said not sure if this helps. Good luck  :)

Thank you. I should have said that my grandmother was Roman Catholic.
