Hi,
I’m trying to find the burial of a man named Thomas Marshall and his son Charles Rutherford Marshall.
The family bible states;
Thomas Marshall

Bapt 7th February 1875 par of Mitford
Died 25 Oct 1909 aged 34 years
Married Mary Elizabeth Rutherford at Whalton Parish Church 8 Jan 1902
Had three children; Annie Winifred (3 Jan 1903), Thomas (20 Oct 1904), Charles Rutherford (1 Nov 1908).
Resided Morpeth High House, Mitford Factory
Coachman for the Rayne family
Charles Rutherford Marshall
B. 1 Nov 1908
Bap 6 Dec 1908 parish of Mitford, sponsors Eleanor Ann Rutherford & William Rutherford
Died 10 Dec 1909 aged 13 months
Funeral 14th Dec 1909 (does not specify where)
I have their death certs and know that Thomas died at High House, Morpeth and Charles died at Bonas Hill, Ponteland.
Any help is greatly appreciated :)

How tragic - Mary lost both her husband & son within a few weeks.
If nothing can be found online - as you have their actual death dates you could try ringing the records office who may be able to help you

The names sound familiar, have you posted about this before?

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. They were both so young.
I have my suspicions on Whalton & Mitford being where Thomas was buried but no clue for Charles as he died in Ponteland.

I’ve posted the family before trying to find out what happened to Thomas’ older brother. Charles Marshall, he drowned himself at Bishopwearmouth in 1890.

I'm more than happy to be corrected, but Bonas Farm seems to be near Ogle, not Ponteland :-\

Bonas Hill, not farm! Where did I get Farm from :-[
Charles’ obituary says it was Ponteland but Ogle makes much more sense as the Rutherford’s lived at Ogle Mill before.
Ponteland, Bonas Hill, at the residence of his grandmother, on the 10th inst., Charles Rutherford, infant son of Mary Elizabeth and the late Thomas Marshall, High House, Morpeth.

I've just been checking its location via the 1901 and 1911 censuses.
Bonas Hill was indeed near Ogle. It was in the ecclesiastical parish of Whalton.
Looking at the 1911 census forms, I think Ponteland was simply part of its postal address.

Thank you, that’s very helpful and makes a lot more sense. ;D
I know Mary Elizabeth’s father Thomas Rutherford was buried in Whalton in September 1903 (I have a copy of his his funeral card). This seems closest to where Charles died aswell.

Mitford or Whalton seem the most likely places.
You could enquire at Northumberland Archives about a look up, since you know the death dates. I don't know what the current fees are, though.
