I am researching the Burgess family from Yankalilla South Australia and believed I had all family members until the name Benjamin Burgess appeared at the death of Emily Marriner/ Hatt/ Burgess. I have found little evidence of his birth or parentage except his father was Richard Burgess. I am trying to confirm he was the son of Richard Burgess and Emily Burgess from Yankalilla.

Wife. - Sarah Annie. his children are also named.

If you have world access to Ancestry there are submitted documents

Just to note that you don't need a subscription to search newspapers on trove:

For example - funeral notice for Sarah Anne BURGESS (mentioned in the above memorial notice)

Emma HATT was widowed in 1858 when husband Giles HATT died in an accident only months after their arrival in Australia.
They had been married and had children in England
She was seemingly left destitute and married again in 1864 to Richard Burgess in Yankalilla.
The marriage record shows her father as Robert MARINER.
Benjamin’s birth may not have been registered. It is possible his was the first of several births which pre-dated this BURGESS marriage.
His 1885 marriage to Sarah Annie PIKE may give his father’s name.
Marriage to Emma.

Emily/Emma BURGESS’s 1894 death Notice states she leaves three sons and 4 daughters.
Her destitute appeal in 1858 states two girls 8 and 2 years and one boy 11 years. These would likely be Joseph MARRINER (Stepson of Giles HATT, and child of Emma/Emily see 1851 census UK) Martha HATT aged 8 years and Ann HATT aged 4 years both daughters of Giles HATT. Deceased.
Martha predeceased her mother 1871.
Some of this thinking is based on an Ancestry tree. So is speculative ;D
Continuing with the numbering,
The children born with Richard BURGESS, who was not a very good husband I think, Could be….
Richard BURGESS,. Benjamin BURGESS, Ravina (Hannah) BURGESS, Emma BURGESS, Rosina BURGESS..
Three sons (including Joseph MARRINER) and four daughters.(including Ann HATT).
Possible thoughts anyway.
